| | Thu, 07 Aug 2008 18:14:02 -0600 | | | Hello, LinkedIn has some new developments in the LinkedIn End User License Agreement (EULA). Things that were common are now forbidden. Worse yet, very few people know about this and users are subject to having their account terminated. You cannot have e-mail addresses, phone numbers, addresses or other "confidential" information in your profile. Here's a good one "LinkedIn may terminate the Agreement for any or no cause, at any time, with or without notice, which shall be effective immediately or as may be specified in the notice." Or, how about this "LinkedIn may limit the number of connections you may have to other users and prohibit you from contacting other users through use of the Services." All of this is on top of LinkedIn now limiting the number of groups that ypou may belong to down to just 50. If there were not 100,000 groups that might be reasonable, but a search on the word "marketing" yields 3,020 results and there is no way to tell which are big ones or the small ones without opening each up individually. Why are there so many? Because LinkedIn approved so many. The EULA can be found on the bottom of each LinkedIn page under the text link "User Agreement". Have a nice read for yourself and see how this smells to you. Mike O'Neil President, Integrated Alliances | |
| | Fri, 18 Jul 2008 08:29:27 -0600 | | | Hello, There is a great new video on LinkedIn done by the video basics producer extraordinaire Lee Levefer. It is called "LinkedIn in Plain English". Lee has produced videos on social networking that we use in our workshops and webinars and they have been very well received. This video is a great primer even for advanced users as it lets us all explain "LinkedIn in Plain English" to others. I highly suggest you view this video and all the others he has on his site www.commoncraft.com. On the humorous side, take a look at the Zombies video! From Wiki's to Blogs and everything else in between, Lee is a great explainer of these technologies. | | Fri, 04 Jul 2008 13:36:00 -0600 | | | Hello, In the course of conducting my LinkedIn training workshops I often discover useful things that I feel I should share. Some are simple and some are not. Below are some interesting things I think you will find helpful in your LinkedIn usage. We've gleaned these "Golden Nuggets" from completing over 100 workshops and webinars. So, here are some LinkedIn Profile tips. Recently, I showed LinkedIn users how to put special formatting characters ( and #9474; and #9612; and #9674; and #9658; and #9668; and #8596; ... ") into their profiles to make them more interesting and more readable. Now you see a lot of them. We teach people how to use them in our Integrated Alliances (IA) LinkedIn Hands-On workshops and webinars and include them in the MS Word templates we provide. So, just how much "Real Estate" do I have to work with on my LinkedIn Profile? I had a project recently to find out just how much space we have to work with in each field on LinkedIn. It lets you know where the lines are drawn and that can help a lot in making you most visible. We always suggest that you create and maintain your master LinkedIn profile text in MS Word and then cut and past the text into LinkedIn.
